Information for Refugees

The University of Mannheim established a work group of university members and student representatives to coordinate the numerous refugee projects at the University. The work group is led by Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Tracy, Vice President for Research, Equal Opportunities and Young Researchers.

Initial Consultation at the University of Mannheim

Consultation hours: Monday 9 a.m.-noon, and Wednesday 2-5 p.m.
The initial consultation for refugees is held by Ms. Strödter at the Admissions Office in L1,1 room 158. Just drop in during the consultation hours, you don't need to make an appointment. Please bring any credentials you have (i.e. school and university diplomas, if applicable).

Studying at the University of Mannheim

The University of Mannheim offers excellent academic programs for undergraduate and graduate students in six departments:

All undergraduate programs as well as most graduate programs are taught in German and therefore require advanced proficiency (level C 1). However, we also offer eight master's programs completely taught in English.

Intensive German Language Courses for Refugees Interested in Studying - 2018

For admission to a degree program held in German, proof of German language skills is required. The University of Mannheim offers German language courses covering levels A2/B1 to C1 as well as a preparation for the DSH Examination. 

In order to participate in the course, you must have completed your high school education (equivalent of the German Abitur), have a refugee status, and be able to be present for class in Mannheim on a daily basis. While all course participants receive a scholarship to cover the entire cost of the program, transportation costs cannot be reimbursed.

Important information:
Course duration: 10 Months (February to December, 2018)
Course times: Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 11:45
Location: University of Manheim Campus
Costs: Free. Course participants receive a full scholarship for the course and examination.
Application deadline: December 6, 2017

- High school diploma (in the original language and a translation in German or English)
- Any certificates from previous studies at a university (if available)
- Certificates from any German language study
- Residence permit

Other German Language Courses Offered in Mannheim

Most of the graduate programs at the University of Mannheim require advanced reading and writing skills in English. But improving your reading and writing skills in German will also help you settle in as quickly as possible, on- and off-campus.  Several institutions in Mannheim offer language courses at different levels. Language competence is  assessed and certified by TestDaF and the DSH examination.
