Going Abroad

Would you like to study at a foreign university for one or two semesters? There are many different options to turn this wish into a reality.

The International Office is pleased to advise you! The best way to get started is to go to one of the information sessions offered by the International Office - look for the session held in English, which is usually offered in autumn. Here you will get fundamental information on the programmes, financing and the application process.

The most popular and easiest way to go abroad is to choose an exchange programme at one of the University of Mannheim's partner universities in countries all over the world. The programme you choose will most likely depend on your field of study. The benefit of the partner university programmes is that you will not have to pay any student tuition fees to your host university. Within Europe, all of the programmes participate in and are supported through the ERASMUS-Programme of the European Union, which means an additional financial support. The good news is that ERASMUS funding is available for everyone, irrespective of nationality.

For further funding possibilities please refer to the respective section on our website - but please be aware that for some scholarships or support programmes you need to have a German nationality or e.g. must have lived in Germany for a longer period of time.

If you would rather like to accumulate practical experience in another country, you could do an internship (Praktikum) or, if you are studying to become a German teacher, the PAD (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) offers teaching placements in a school abroad for up to one year.
