Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst

(German Academic Exchange Service)

The German Academic Exchange Service is the world's largest international exchange organisation for students and scientists. The DAAD provides scholarships as well as extensive information about studying abroad on the DAAD Website. In addition to information about financial support, the website contains information about specific countries and links, as well as helpful tips regarding studying abroad, internships abroad, learning foreign languages etc.

You'll find information about DAAD scholarships - particularly year-long scholarships- through the database on the DAAD website under: www.auslands-stipendien.de (currently only available in German). Once you've provided some information, the search engine will give you a list of all possible scholarship options including, in many cases, scholarships from other organisations.

Furthermore, the DAAD offers German universities funding for short exchanges abroad through the "PROMOS" ("Programm zur Steigerung der Mobilität von deutschen Studierenden") programme. Universities are free to define their own scholarship strategy.

The University of Mannheim has decided that PROMOS scholarships should be used particularly to fund exchange semesters in overseas countries during students' bachelor studies. Because the bachelor's degree represents the first step in the standard educational process, the majority of students should have an opportunity to study abroad via PROMOS scholarships.

Therefore, the University of Mannheim offers bachelor students to apply for funding if they spend their study exchange outside of the European Union. You'll find further information here. Exchanges within Europe are funded primarily through the ERASMUS-Program. You'll find funding options for Master and Staatsexamen students here.

If you have further questions concerning the application to a DAAD scholarship, the International Office’s staff members will be happy to help you.
