Please click on the respective scholarship to obtain more information.

Since 2011, the University of Mannheim offers the Deutschland Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium) and thereby participates in a program offered by the federal government. The Deutschland Scholarship supports students with €300 per month. The government pays €150 of this amount. The other half is financed by third-party sponsors, such as companies, foundations or individuals. Students are chosen based on their performance. Furthermore, the university pays attention to accomplishments outside of school and university, such as athletic achievements or social commitment. Moreover, the university considers personal circumstances that could complicate admission to or success in a program of study. This could be a migrant or a non-academic background.

The Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship

The Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship from the University of Mannheim Foundation is based on the idea of supporting students who show high commitment in their program of study despite their difficult financial situation. Regardless of age, program and semester, students at the University of Mannheim may be funded. The respective funding amount is determined on a case-by-case basis. Scholarship holders may be funded for a duration of up to one year. At the end of the funding year, it is possible to reapply as long as the degree has not yet been completed.

Mannheimer Sportstipendium

It is particularly hard for top athletes to graduate from university due to the extra workload generated by training and competitions.  The Mannheim Sports Scholarship (Mannheimer Sportstipendium) supports enrolled athletes way beyond the cooperation agreement "Kooperationsvereinbarung/Partnerhochschule" for top class sports. Organizational as well as financial support is supposed to alleviate the double burden of top athletes.

BAföG (Federal Education and Training Assistance Act) is a federal subsidized student loan program providing financial assistance to students. Students who qualify for BAföG receive a monthly amount of money during the course of their studies to help meet the cost of living. In return, the student repays this sum in installments five years after his/her graduation.
Many international students are eligible for BAföG. Essentially, students who are eligible for BAföG are those who have a prospect of remaining in Germany and are integrated into society. This could be someone who has the right of permanent residence according to the EU law stipulating freedom of movement, a long-term resident – EC or a settlement permit.

Since the regulations for BAföG are rather complex, we advise you to visit www.studentenwerk-mannheim.de [currently only available in German] or http://www.bafoeg.bmbf.de/ for further information.
